Alma Mater Proud of our school and happy are we, Proud to belong to dear SXC . . . . This is how my school anthem ran, SXC standing for St Xavier’s Collegiate School, where I studied from 1983 to 1993. Established by the Jesuit community in 1860, St Xavier’s remains the premier school of Calcutta, distinguishing itself both academically as well as in the extra-curricular arena. Stalwarts like Rabindranath Tagore and Sir J C Bose, Shasi Tharoor and P Lal have passed through its portals. In fact a glance through the school roster reads like a veritable Who’s Who. One’s school probably plays the most important role (after the family) in moulding the personality of a child. With the motto of Nihil Ultra meaning Nothing Beyond, St Xavier’s has succeeded in this aspect remarkably by encouraging generations of students to go beyond the ultimate. Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi was established in 1955 as a pioneering institution for technical education and research in the industrial heart of the country. BIT is located in a picturesque 780-acre sprawling campus at the confluence of the rivers Jhumar and Suvarnarekha. Besides the college of engineering, there is a department of pharmaceutical sciences, a school of architecture and a management school. |
